The conference was held on November 5-8, 2001, in Moscow. It was organized by the Synodal Theological Commission at the instruction of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. The volume includes presentations on the topical problems of church anthropology, contemporary interpretation of the patristic tradition, theological and philosophical issues, bioethics, psychology, the ethics of the sex as well as assessment of the state and prospects of today's Orthodox theological thought in this area.

The volume includes full texts of all the papers at the conference.
